De Horst 39
The primary school which I got educated on, was in a Dutch cosy small town, named "Achterberg". It's a traditional farmers village. Often I played their soccer with my friends on a big grass field. Once when I was eight years old, I walked with Evan, a friend of mine, in his neighbourhood. He stopped, and pointed to a house on our left side, De Horst 39. "A heathen lives here" said Evan. We walked by and played soccer on the grass field. I thought it was normal that there lived a heathen, but it wasn't. Later in the afternoon my mother picked me up and drove back to our town. A city where more heathen than Christians live.
*Birds In Captivity*
In September I walked in Rotterdam in a random street. I heard a strange bird sound, I stopped and looked for the bird. In an open window there was the bird in a cage. Mostly a bird travels on about 50 km per day, this cage wasn't even a meter in his length. In the video you can see the bird for 4 seconds, that's the space that a bird can fly back and forth per day. The sound heard as a begging for freedom. The bird was almost there, only the iron bars made the bird feel like a pet. Isn't it strange that we keep birds as pets?
Is this Chinese food? is it?
A lot of Dutch people would agree with me that they love the Chinese kitchen, wouldn't you? Only we know the Dutch Chinese kitchen, it's glocalized. In China they don't eat Peking Eend, Foe Yong Hi or Babi Pangang in a way we do. Is that a bad thing? Or is this also way of colonisation the kitchen?
Which one do you prefer?

While doing my research, I watched "Pete en de bananen". Pete is a homosexual Chinese man whose born in The Netherlands, through his documentary he talks with different Dutch people (with a Chinese background) about race, discrimination, misunderstanding and self image. In a talk with Kelly whose an adopted Chinese, is telling that she used her Chinese looks as a fetish, while she was working as a Phone Sex Operator. From the point she was telling that she used her looks as fetish, I was like, why are Chinese people used as fetish material?

Prototypes and behind the scenes
Some notes during the process of my project
First I tried with a glue gun on cutlery with, later in Ceramics Station with transparent epoxy, I will try another one with food safe epoxy. In Metal Station I transformed the fork, knife and spoon (with copper).
At home I clayed a prototype in a bowl and on a plate. In Ceramics Station I clayed another prototype, made five malls and will proceed on the malls to pour clay in the malls, stick it together and glaze them.
At home I built up my own studio to photograph and to film my objects.
